Formstudies
Inspiration, new steps and a fresh breeze of fresh air trough the project. Form and material studies are important for the flow of the project. I have subdivided the studies in three sections. The autonomous photo's, which are made without any information of the design question. Therefore they are pure to me and made purely of my own fascination. Secondly we have the form studies. Here i work more directly towards some sort of goal. There is some sort of overall theme which combines them. And lastly I have some material studies. Which draws the focus to the materials, textures an possibilities with those two subjects.
Autonomous Photos
Garbage, nature, ditches and most impotently vibrant colors. This is the first step which started my project. I went outside and explored the neighborhood. Searching for interesting objects to photograph. After a while of finding nothing I decided too walk the same route again. Repeatedly until i found something. So after a couple of rounds my eyes focused on the more detailed objects. Garbage with vibrant colors and the hard shadows they created. The vibrant colors and those shadows became my starting point. I decided to focus myself mostly on light as a element.
Form Studies
The step from the autonomous studies towards the form studies was kinda hard for my at the start. How would I translate the knowledge and the inspiration from the first photoshoot into new idea's. The only thing I knew for certain was that light needed to be implemented into these studies. After a lot of thinking I simply decided to create something something quick and simple. With paper I created a lot of forms and sculptures. I discovered that the light creates this amazing depth effects. So I created a lot more photo's. Each one was differnt and special.
Material Studies
These studies where fairly difficult to capture correctly on camera. The material studies are more tests for the ending design. How strong is the material, what would happen if I use it differently and are there other possibilities. These questions are very suitable for my own process with these kind of studies. At the start I photographed a lot of materials. But later on i worked a lot with wood and video. It is the best if you would watch the video's for yourself.
